We serve an honest pint, with a range of cask ales to choose from. Enjoy in front of a roaring fire in the cooler months or sat in our beer garden when the sun makes an appearance. Our menu offers seasonal dishes and regular classics prepared fresh from our kitchen every day.

We also offer a selection of fine wines and champagnes from around the world.

Visit Food & Drink

Whether you’re strolling through the picturesque village of Over Peover, or a seasoned local, there are so many attractions to visit in the area.

Take a trip to Tatton Park, explore outer space at Jodrell Bank Observatory or visit the grade 2 listed Peover Hall & Gardens just up the road from us.

There are plenty of great walks from The Dog. Just ask us when you are in and we’ll gladly point them out to you and have a pint waiting for you when you return!

1805

The present building was built by Baronet Thomas Wetenhall, and once comprised of three cottages – a grocer’s shop, shoemaker and small farmstead.

1860

The building became a public house, known then as the New Inn and the first tenant was local Over Peover family man, William Robinson.

1960s

A refurbishment brought about a new name, the ‘Gay Dog Inn’

1988

New owners Harry and Marjorie Carney made a conservative change and renamed it as The Dog Inn.

A rather fed up looking dog become their well known hanging sign.

2013

Since taking over the reins in February 2013, we have spent time lovingly restoring fixtures and fittings and opening up fireplaces and brickwork, as well as adding textures and fabrics (and incredible loos!) to create a sense of history and a warm and comfortable space for all.

Despite its many tenants and name-changes, The Dog retains its homely village charm and remains a much loved local.
